Whether you're making home stationery or experimenting with different art media, making your own ink can prove useful. Making your own ink gives you the ability to create a variety of tones and hues, such as silver and other metallic colors. Silver ink is quick to produce and requires very few materials. Things You'll Need

  • 2 ounces rubbing alcohol
  • 2 ounces slate mica powder
  • 1 ounce pearl fleck mica powder
  • 4-ounce glass ink bottle

Instructions

    • 1

      Pour 2 ounces of rubbing alcohol into a 4-ounce glass ink bottle.

      Add 2 ounces of powdered slate mica. Slate mica is grayish in tone and can be purchased from any craft and hobby supply store.

      Add 1 ounce of powdered pearl fleck mica powder to give the ink a shimmery silver tone.

      Cap the glass bottle and shake it vigorously for a minute or two, or until the powdered pigment is completely dispersed throughout the liquid.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use the homemade silver ink with a dip pen, or inject ink into a pen ink tube to be used as a gel pen or ball point pen.
