How to Use a USB Camera With iChat
iChat is an instant text messaging application that is part of the MAC OS X operating system that allows the user to communicate with his friends, family and coworkers. It is compatible with AIM or Apple's MobileMe account. While most Mac computers include a built-in iSight camera and microphone, iChat enables you audio chat, or video chat with others over the Internet for free. Not only can you use a built-in iSight camera, you can also set up another third-party USB or external iSight camera that is compatible with iChat in Mac OS X 10.4.9 or newer.

1
Ensure your third-party USB camera is USB Video Class (UVC) compliant and Mac-compatiable, or an external iSight camera--Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac is an example (see Resource)--for iChat in Mac OS X 10.4.9 and later. It is important to have the right type of USB camera before using it for iChat.

Mount your webcam with the universal clip on any edge of the monitor or place your webcam flat on your desktop. Install any webcam software and follow the on-screen installation steps to complete the installer. Plug in your webcam to a USB port on the left side of your Mac laptop or at the right back side of the iMac monitor.
