How to Assemble Wedding Invitations to Be Mailed

How to Assemble Wedding Invitations to Be Mailed thumbnail
Assemble wedding envelopes by starting with the inner envelope and working toward the outer envelope.

As the wedding day closes in upon you, completing and mailing the invitations denotes the step that will make the event official. You have the invitations ordered and begin to put them together, but you find that you don't know if the R.S.V.P. card goes above or below the invitation. According to wedding etiquette, an order should be followed when packaging the wedding invitations.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the invitation in your right hand. Your invitation is the largest item that you will insert in the envelope.

    • 2

Slide the R.S.V.P. card inside the flap but on the outside of its envelope.

    • 3

Stack the enclosures on top of one another according to size. The largest enclosure should be above the invitation. In the case that the invitation is enclosed in a pocket fold, include all of the enclosures within the flap.

    • 4

Insert the invitation and any enclosures on top of it into the inner envelope. If the invitation lies within a pocket fold, insert the fold into the inner envelope first. Ensure the invitation will face the guest when the inner envelope seal opens.

    • 5

      Seal the inner envelope.

    • 6

Address the inner envelope using an ink pen.

    • 7

Place the inner envelope inside the outer one so that the names of the guests will show when the outer envelope opens.

    • 8

      Seal the outer envelope.

    • 9

Address the outer envelope with the recipient's address and your return address.

    • 10

Place a postal stamp on the envelope. The amount will be based upon the weight and dimensions of the invitation. Visit your local post office for mailing details.

    • 11

Take your wedding invitations in their envelopes to the post office to mail them to your guests.
