How to Upload Files in Joomla

Found This Helpful

The Joomla content management database allows you to upload image and document files to use on your website. To upload your files in Joomla you must have access to the Joomla database as a site administrator. As a Joomla administrator, you will have the rights to make changes to the website on the back end and publish those changes on the front end for website visitors to view.

Things You'll Need

  • Joomla administrative privileges

Instructions

  1. Type the website address for your Joomla administration control panel into the address bar of your browser. The address for your Joomla administration control panel is "http://www.yourdomainname.com/administrator." Press "Enter" on your keyboard to access the page.

  2. Enter your Joomla administration username and password that you set up in Joomla to work with your website. Click the "Log In" button. You will then see all of the control panel icons listed.

  3. Click on the "Media Manager" icon.

  4. Look on the right-hand side of the page and find the "Create Folder" button. Click on this button to create folders if you want your files to be organized. For example, you can create an "Images" folder, a "Documents" folder and a "Banners" folder. Name the folder and it will be located on the left panel of the Media Manager. If you don't want to organize your folders, skip this step.

  5. Click on the folder you want to upload files to. If you chose not to create any folders, your files will be uploaded to a generic default folder.

  6. Click the "Browse" button at the bottom of the Media Manager page; this will allow you to browse on your computer for the file you wish to upload to the Joomla database. Double-click on the file you want to upload to select it. To select multiple files, hold down the "Ctrl" button on your keyboard as you click on the files.

  7. Click on the "Start Upload" button to complete your upload. When the upload is complete, you will see the uploaded files in the Media Manager window.
