How to Run With an iTouch

Listen to your favorite songs while you run with your iPod Touch.

Before heading out for a run, grab your iPod Touch so you can listen to some tunes while you burn calories. While the iPod Touch can fit thousands of songs and is compact enough to fit in your pocket, there are several problems you can run into when you try to jog with the MP3 player. Constant movement can cause the device to skip songs, and your arm movements can cause you to knock your earphones out of the jack. Prepare your iPod Touch before a run to make sure you reach your goal with the appropriate background music.

Instructions

    • 1

Touch "Settings" from the iPod Touch menu. Tap "Music."

    • 2

Set "Shake to Shuffle" to "Off." This will prevent the iPod Touch from accidentally skipping to another songs while you run. Tap "Settings."

    • 3

Tap "General." Scroll down to "Auto-Lock" and tap the words. Select "1 Minute" from the menu. This will lock the iPod Touch after a minute, preventing you from setting off the touch sensor with your leg while running.

    • 4

Touch the "Home" button on the bottom of the iPod Touch to return to the main menu.

    • 5

Attach an iPod Touch holster onto the waistband of your running shorts. If you do not have a holster, wear shorts or pants with pockets in them.

    • 6

Place your headphones on your head as if you were listening to music. Run the cord under your shirt and toward the holster or pocket you put the iPod Touch in. Your arm can snag an exposed cord while you run.

    • 7

Insert the plug of your headphones into the jack on the bottom of your iPod Touch.

    • 8

Tap "Music" on the bottom of the iPod Touch menu. Tap "Playlist" to scroll through any music collections you have created on iTunes, or choose "Songs," then "Shuffle" to play all songs on your iPod in a random order. Your music will begin playing.

    • 9

Wrap your iPod Touch in a small cloth to cushion the device in the event you trip and fall during your run.

    • 10

Touch the black rectangular bottom on the top edge of the iPod Touch to turn off and lock the screen. Slide the iPod Touch into your pocket or clip and start your run.

Tips & Warnings

  • For added stability during the jog, run your headphone cord through a small clip and attach it to the bottom of your shirt.

  • Tap the "Home" button once to turn on the screen and two more times to bring up a quick music menu to skip songs. Use this if you want to cycle through your playlist. Tap the black button on the top of the iPod Touch to shut off the screen before putting it back in your pocket.
