How to Fix MBR on XP
Your Windows XP computer stores your software and data on your computer's hard drive. The XP operating system tracks where all the files are located, including the files that allow XP itself to run, by storing that information in the file system. When you turn your computer on, the XP operating system first looks for a file called the master boot record so that it knows where to look in the file system for the files it needs to run. A damaged or corrupted MBR can prevent Windows XP from starting, but you can fix the MBR using the Windows XP Recovery Console.
