How to Make Car Bumpers Look New

How to Make Car Bumpers Look New thumbnail
Try to keep your car's bumper looking like new.

Cleaning the windows, shining the tires and keeping up the paint job are all ways to get your car looking in top condition, but don't forget about the bumper. Some cars have shiny metal bumpers to clean and some have plastic bumpers that are color-matched to the rest of the car. Whichever you have, it is simple enough to clean a car's bumper and make it look like new.

Instructions

    • 1

Rinse any dirt, grime or buildup from the bumper with water. A high-pressure hose is a good tool to use to wet the car and blast off dirt. Do not use a sponge as it may create a buildup of dirt and scratch the bumper.

    • 2

Let the bumper dry a little bit and spray it one more time with the hose. Use a soft wool cloth to wipe over the bumper and take off any leftover grime.

    • 3

Use water and a car shampoo on the bumper. Lather it up and scrub it with a cotton cleaning pad using a circular rubbing motion.

    • 4

Rinse off the bumper with more water. Dry it with a soft cloth so that no water marks are left behind.

    • 5

Apply wax to a waxing sponge and spread an even, thin layer over the bumper. Use a circular motion to apply the wax.

    • 6

Allow one to two minutes for the wax to haze. It will become a lighter white color.

    • 7

Buff out the wax with a clean, soft towel. Use frequent circular motions. Buff until the hazy wax is no longer visible.
