How to Build a Simple Model Boat
Simple model boats come in many different shapes and sizes. These boats are also made using different materials including wood, sponges, paper and even plastic. One option when building your own model boat is to use a pinewood block that can be found easily and cheaply at almost any hardware store or hobby shop. The best thing about building wooden model boats is that they are hardier and last longer than other types of models, such as origami model boats.

Draw a leaf-shaped design onto one side of a 6-inch by 4-inch by 1-inch pinewood block. The leaf shape should take up the entire size of the block.
-
2
Cut out the leaf shaped design from the block using a jigsaw.
-
-
3
Drill a hole into the center of the leaf shape. The hole should measure a quarter inch in diameter and should be half an inch deep.
-
4
Apply wood glue to the inside of the hole and insert a quarter-inch-thick wooden dowel that is 6.5 inches long into the hole for the mast. Let the glue dry for one hour.
-
5
Cut out a 6-inch by 4-inch piece of cloth from a bandana of any color. Use scissors to cut the bandana.
-
6
Attach the cloth to the mast with a staple gun so that the cloth sticks out 3 inches from both sides of the mast.
-
7
Sand down all of the wooden parts of the model boat until the wood is smooth, and then paint it with any color of paint.
