The Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) began in October 2002. Most active duty Marines and reservists are trained to the tan belt level, a mandatory requirement for all Marines since 2008, according to the Marine Corps Times website. Marines can obtain advanced martial arts ranks after meeting military rank requirements. To become a black belt, Marines must hold a sergeant's rank or higher. Training in Marine Corps martial arts can strengthen your mind and body as you learn an effective method of self-defense.

      Become a Marine. When you enlist, you become a member of an elite military organization that provides superior fitness concepts for active members. As a Marine, you will learn skills for armed and unarmed self-defense. Marines learn basic hand-to-hand combat skills as well as entry-level martial arts skills.

      Attend a MCMAP training facility to continue learning martial arts. You can advance from beginner levels through instructor ranks. Seven satellite schools within the Corps provide martial arts lessons. Students learn about leadership training, martial cultures and physical conditioning.

      Visit the Fight Authority website to view videos of Marine Corps martial arts training. The videos display methods Marines use to defend themselves in combat. Click on a video to learn a variety of martial arts moves. Also, you can register for free martial arts techniques by video.
