How to Add a New BlackBerry User to the BES

Bridge the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to the Microsoft Exchange Server.

Adding a new user to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server is necessary to allow a user to access his Exchange email on his BlackBerry device. Companies use the BlackBerry Enterprise Server because it is more secure and more encrypted than a regular POP server. To ensure the user remains protected, only an administrator can access the BlackBerry Enterprise Server settings. When it comes time to add a new user to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the user should contact the Information Technology Department within the company. This department will then validate the potential new user and start the process of adding the user to the Enterprise Server.

Instructions

1. 

   The BlackBerry Enterprise Server request gains approval from the IT Department.

   When the Information Technology Department of the company receives a request to add a new user to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, the department passes the information to the BlackBerry Enterprise Administrator. After the IT Department verifies the potential new user is valid, the administrator then begins the process of adding the user to the Enterprise Server.

2. The BlackBerry Administrator has a Blackberry Enterprise account that only he or she can access. To add a new user to the Enterprise Server, the administrator must select the menu labeled "BlackBerry Solution Management." Once you open this menu item, expand the "User" tab.

3. Under the Expand User" tab, select the choice labeled "Create User" to begin adding a new user to the Enterprise Server. The administrator should then search for the established Exchange Server account user name, which will match the new BlackBerry Enterprise Server account user name. Once you locate the appropriate account, click the box beside the correct user name and select "Continue." On the next screen, add the new user to the appropriate BlackBerry Enterprise Server by clicking on the Server and selecting "Continue."

4. Choose an activation password that you will give to the new user as an activation password for his BlackBerry device. Click the section labeled "Set Activation Password" and create the password in this section. Confirm the new password by selecting "Confirm."

5. For an added security measure, most companies require a password change at least every 30 days. As the administrator, you may select how often you want the users to change their password. Navigate to the "Password Expiration" field. You may choose not only the number of days, but also the number of hours you would like to enforce a password change for all the users or specific users on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. Once the password is set, select "Create User" to finalize the new user in the Enterprise Server.

• It may take from two hours to 24 hours before a new user on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server successfully activates.
