How to Make Fake Vampire Fangs

Vampire fangs can complete a Dracula Halloween costume.

Vampire fangs can make a Halloween costume look great rather than just good, but many fake fangs that you buy are uncomfortable, prevent you from speaking clearly and look like exactly what they are--cheap, fake plastic fangs. Putting the time and effort into making individual fangs that fit over your canines will reap benefits in the form of many scary nights of dark fun.

Things You'll Need

• Alginate
• Beaker
• Plastic cups
• Knife
• Plaster of Paris mixture
• Small plastic box
• Clear nail acrylic
• Bowl
• Mirror
• Dremel

Instructions

Make Impression Plates

1. Cut the plastic cup in half lengthwise. Take one half and cut around 1 inch from the bottom of the cup. The result should slightly resemble a flat mouth guard. Check the impression plate fits comfortably in your mouth around the teeth at the top of your mouth. Adjust the impression plate if it does not fit comfortably.

2. Mix one part alginate with one part water in a beaker. The mixture will dry in under three minutes, so quickly pour the contents onto the impression plate until the plate is completely covered. Put the mixture over your front teeth and wait for it to dry. Carefully remove the hardened alginate mix from your mouth, revealing a perfect negative mold of your teeth.

3. Place the negative mold into a small plastic box, which should be slightly bigger than the mold, and the mold should sit comfortably at the bottom. Mix the plaster of Paris mixture with water, or according to the packet's instructions. Pour the mixture over the negative mold making sure the mold is completely covered and wait for it to dry. Remove the solidified plaster, and carefully pull out the alginate mold, revealing a copy of your teeth.

4. Mix the powder and liquid that comes in the clear nail acrylic set in a bowl until it forms into a ball. When it is almost dry, use your fingers to pick up the ball and push it over the mold of your canine tooth. Make sure the mixture is pushed up right to the mold of your gums, but not over it. The better the impression of the tooth, the better it will stay in your mouth. Wait around five minutes until it hardens.

5. Remove the mold, and carefully use the dremel rotary tool to shape it into a fang. Leave the ridges created by the other teeth next to the canine tooth. Shape the inside of the fang to come away from your two front teeth, so they point straight down and look like fangs. Keep the rotary tool on its lowest setting. The fang is now complete, and a vacuum will form when you place it over your canine tooth, allowing the fang to stay attached to your tooth and creating an incredibly realistic vampire look. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for the second fang.

Tips & Warnings

• Make sure you create the vampire tooth to fit over your canine teeth. When you are looking at the positive mold of your teeth, you will see your two front teeth, a smaller tooth next to them and then the canine tooth.

• Be careful not to overfile the fang. When it looks like it may be ready, test the fang by placing it over your canine and checking how it looks in a mirror.
