How to Learn Christian Worship Songs

How to Learn Christian Worship Songs thumbnail
Listening to a Christian worship song is one of the steps in the process to learning it.

Christian worship songs are important not only to corporate worship at church, but also to individual intimacy and praise of God. The New Testament in the bible encourages Christians to "sing hymns of praise" in the midst of the congregation (Hebrews 2:12 Amplified Bible) and to "make a joyful noise unto God" (Psalm 66:1 Amplified Bible). Whether you enjoy singing hymns, contemporary worship songs, or both, learning to sing Christian worship songs is an easy process.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify what worship song you want to learn. Use an Internet search engine to locate a reputable Christian music site and download the song of your choice. Visit a music store to obtain sheet music. Reimburse the songwriter if the song is an original and has not been recorded. Remember copyrighted songs need to be paid for, so be sure to purchase the song.

Listen to the song repeatedly. Download the music to your MP3 player or iPOD to listen through ear phones. Plug the song into your CD player and play the music at home and in the car. Visit youtube.com, search for the song and listen on your computer.

Incorporate singing the lyrics once you have gained a good understanding of how the song plays and when the words are sung. Read the lyrics the first time through as you play the song. Practice singing the song once through and then break it down into parts.

Memorize the chorus first since this is repeated several times in the song. Repeatedly read the words as you sing the chorus, both with the music and without. After practicing the chorus several times, attempt to sing the chorus without reading the words. Continue practicing until you can sing the chorus verbatim.

Use the same strategy for learning each verse of the song, beginning with the first verse. Practice the chorus once you have mastered each verse so you do not forget what you have learned. Sing the song several times, after you have learned all of the words.
