How to Enable a Print Spooler in Windows XP
If you receive an error message when you try to install a new printer or if the print job you sent to your existing printer does not start, chances are your print spooler is not working properly. Knowing how to enable and disable the print spooler is important, both as a troubleshooting step and as a way to get your printer up and running. Enabling the print spooler is not difficult, but it is important to take the right steps.

Log on to your computer and click on the "Start" button. Choose "Control Panel" from the list.

Double-click on the "Administrative Tools" icon. Double-click on "Services" when the Administrative Tools window opens.

Scroll through the list of services until you reach the Print Spooler option. Double-click on the "Print Spooler" service to see its properties.

Click the "Startup Type" and choose "Automatic" from the list. This will ensure that the print spooler service starts each time the computer does.

Right-click on the "Print Spooler" service and choose "Start" to start the service manually. This should enable you to print your documents or add a printer.
