Printing booklets in Microsoft Word 2003.

You can use Microsoft Word 2003 to create and print booklets. You may wish to use booklets as a program for a school play or menu for a restaurant or deli. Before you create and print your booklet document, you need to change some settings in Word so the booklet prints correctly. If you create a booklet and print it the right way, you can fold the printed document to open and read like a book. For this reason, printing booklets is only recommended for documents with more than two pages.

Instructions

  1. Create a Booklet in Word 2003

    • 1

Open the Microsoft Word 2003 program. When you open the Microsoft Word program, a blank, new document will be shown on the screen by default.

    • 2

Click "File," "Page Setup" and select the "Margins" tab. Or press "Alt" on your keyboard, followed by "F" and then "U" to open the Margins tab in the Page Setup window.

    • 3

Select "Book Fold" from the "Multiple Pages" drop-down list. Microsoft Word changes the document to landscape orientation.

    • 4

Select the number of pages you want to include in your booklet from the "Sheet per Booklet" drop-down list. If the number of pages in your document exceeds the number of pages you can select for a booklet, Word will print the document as multiple booklets.

    • 5

Review the margin settings. Type the amount of space you want for the inside and outside margins in the "Inside" and "Outside" box. The margin settings designate the amount of blank space outside the printing area on a page.

    • 6

Type the amount of space needed along the fold of the booklet to accommodate binding in the "Gutter" box.

    • 7

      Click "OK".

    • 8

Type text and add graphics to create your booklet.

Click the "Properties" button to change your printing options. The printing options screen configuration varies based on your printer but it generally includes the same items. Select the option to print on both sides of the paper, change the page orientation to landscape and select the option to flip the document on the short edge or short side.

    • 12

Select the corresponding radio button for the page range you want to print. Clicking "Current Page" or "Pages" will print the specified page(s) you indicate, plus the three other pages that belong on the same sheet of paper.
