How to Become a Claims Adjuster in Florida
Florida has more than its share of hurricanes, and the damage can result in insurance claims that are handled by claims adjusters. Florida is one of a number of states that requires claims adjusters to have a license. Even if you arrive from another state that has no such license requirement, you must obtain a non-resident adjuster's license before working in Florida. There is an application process, which you initiate after taking the adjuster's course or passing the exam.

1
Fulfill the basic requirements to be a resident claims adjuster in Florida. You must be at least 18 years old and a U.S. citizen or a legal alien who has a work authorization from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Services. Complete an approved adjuster's course or pass the Florida adjuster exam. If you are an adjuster from a state that has reciprocity with Florida, you may qualify to bypass the course and exam and apply for a non-resident claims adjuster license. Submit to fingerprinting, which is required to obtain a license.

2
Satisfy one of the two methods to qualify to apply for a license. Complete an approved Florida certified adjuster designation course. The course is offered online or in a classroom. A series of quizzes during the course replaces a final exam as a requirement for a license. You may opt to try to pass the state exam without taking the course. Apply for the exam or an adjuster's license through the Florida Department of Financial Services website.

You must post a $50,000 surety bond, which you can obtain from a surety insurance company licensed in Florida.
