How to Determine Toner Levels on an HP P2015

The HP P2015 is a laserjet printer, which uses a single black toner cartridge for printing. The toner is in powdered form: It melts slightly and bonds to paper via heat from the printer’s fuser. Determining the estimated amount of toner remaining inside the cartridge isn't difficult. HP has designed the HP P2015 with several methods of obtaining this information including a control panel warning light, HP ToolboxFX report, computer and email alerts, and a printed report.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your HP P2015 printer.

    • 2

Check the printer control panel. If the "Toner" light is on, the toner cartridge is low on toner and requires replacement.

    • 3

Open the HP ToolboxFX on your computer. Select the "Status" section and check for the estimated toner level within the cartridge on the "Supplies Status" page.

    • 4

Set up HP ToolboxFX Alerts that automatically alert you to low toner levels via a pop-up window on your computer or email. Select the "Alerts" section in the HP ToolboxFX. Choose your settings--computer or email--and then click "Apply" to save your settings.

    • 5

Press and hold the "Go" button on the control panel for at least 5 seconds to print out a printer "Configuration Page" report that includes a "Supplies Status" page with the estimated toner level.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your printer is connected to a network, you may also have the ability to check the toner levels via your Web browser using the printer's IP address. Open your Web browser, type the IP address into the address bar, click the "Device Status" tab and look under the "Supplies Summary" section.
