How to Save Links in Internet Explorer 6

In 2001, Microsoft released the sixth version of its Internet Explorer Web browser (IE6). This software came included with any computer running Microsoft’s Windows XP operating system. Some of IE6’s updated features included an integrated Windows Messenger, a pop-up blocker and toolbars for media and images. Microsoft’s IE6 also included the ability to save links (the addresses of websites) by adding website addresses as “Favorites.”

Instructions

    • 1

Open Internet Explorer 6. You can load this program by double-clicking on the IE6 icon on your desktop. Alternatively, you can click the Windows Icon (or Start) in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen, and choose “Internet Explorer.”

    • 2

Go to a website you wish to save. Type the URL (website address) of a website into the navigation bar of IE6 (the location that displays the website address of any page you are currently viewing).

    • 3

Add the link as a favorite. Click on “Favorites” in the top menu bar and then choose “Add to Favorites.” Successful completion of this step will open a small application window.

    • 4

Title the favorite. In the application window that appears, you can either enter a new title for the link you want to save or you can use the title IE6 provides.

    • 5

Select a folder. Internet Explorer 6 allows you to arrange your saved links into folders. After you have named the saved website, you can also select a folder in which you wish to save it. For example, you could save links for travel websites inside a folder named “Travel.”

    • 6

Click “OK” to finish saving the link. If you want to visit this saved link later, open IE6, and click “Favorites” in the top menu bar. In the drop-down menu that appears, click on the saved link to load it into your Web browser.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can expedite the process of saving favorites by using a shortcut. When you have loaded a website that you wish to save, simply press Ctrl + D on your keyboard. This shortcut will save the link to your favorites automatically; however, it will not allow you to re-title the link or arrange it into one of your folders.
