Highlighting passages in a document makes the document easier to read.

To keep track of quotes, summaries or valuable information in a book, you highlight the text. The same principle applies for PDF files. If you are reading a PDF document, you might want to highlight the text of a quote or a valuable piece of information within the document so that you can easily find it later. Therefore, understanding how to use the highlighting tool, while viewing a PDF document is essential.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a PDF document by accessing the file on your hard drive or by downloading one from the Internet to your computer. If you choose the downloading method, select "Open" when the download box appears to view the document.

    • 2

Select the "Highlight" tool located in the menu bar on the top of the document. The highlight tool is a small white box with a yellow "T" in the inside. On certain documents like DocQ, it may resemble a yellow pencil.

    • 3

Starting at the beginning of the sentence you want to highlight, use the mouse cursor to select the text you want to highlight by pressing the left key on your mouse. Additionally, pressing "CTRL + Drag" on your Windows / UNIX system or "Option + Drag" on a Mac operating system will also highlight the text.

    • 4

Release the mouse button once you have selected the area you would like to highlight. On some PDF software such as Adobe, you can enter a note within the highlighted passage by double-clicking the highlighted text and entering the message in the resulting blank box.
