How to Insert an Automatic Date Change in Word

An automatic date change is handy if you’re working on a template or letter you re-use frequently. Microsoft Word will automatically update the date in your document, so you won’t have to. You can specify the language and format for the date before inserting it. Word uses the calendar on your computer for the date. So if the calendar on your computer is wrong, the date will be too.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a new or existing Word document and place your cursor at the insertion point where you want the automatic date to appear.

    • 2

Click on “Insert” and “Date and Time” from the ribbon. The “Date and Time” dialog box will open.

    • 3

Select the date format you want to use from the list of “Available Formats.” Select your preferred language from the “Language” section.

    • 4

Add a checkmark to “Update Automatically,” then click “OK.” The date will be inserted into your document and change automatically.
