Freeze rows and columns in Excel to view two areas of a spreadsheet. A simple command will freeze rows and columns when the user needs them to remain visible.

Instructions

    • 1

      Place the cursor in the cell directly below the row you want to remain visible (freeze) and directly to the right of the column you want to remain visible (freeze). For example, if you want Row 1 and Columns A through C to remain visible (freeze), place the cursor in cell D2.

      Click on the "Window" menu.

      Select "Freeze Panes."

      Move the cursor through the spreadsheet and notice that Row 1 and Columns A through C are frozen. In other words, they always remain visible while the rest of the data move.

      Click on the "Window" menu and select "Unfreeze Panes" to remove the frozen rows and columns.
