How to Search for Aim Screen Names
AOL Instant Messenger, commonly known as AIM, allows users to chat with family, friends, and coworkers around the world. AIM allows users to locate existing friends or add new ones. Users can find contacts by typing in the screen name, importing contacts from an email account, or searching for contacts by using names or email addresses. Users can then add the contact to the AIM Buddy List or chat with the contact without adding him.

Navigate to the AOL homepage and select "Downloads" beneath "Services" on the left side menu. Click "Download Now" beneath "Instant Messaging" to begin downloading AOL Instant Messenger. Select "Save File" and choose a location. Double-click the saved AIM file to begin the installation.

Select "Run" on the security warning window that appears on your screen. Choose your preferred installation options and click "Next." Wait for AIM to finish the installation. Press "Launch" to open AOL Instant Messenger. Click "AIM" within the instant messenger screen. Sign in using your AOL login information.

Click "Menu" on the top bar of the AIM screen. Select "Add to Buddy List" and "Search for Buddy." Type in the name or email address of the person you are trying to locate. Press "Find" and the results page will load.

Choose "Invite" if no results displayed after you typed in an email address. Highlight the entry and press "Add" if the correct person appears in the search results. Select "Menu" and "New IM" to type in the contacts screen name to chat without adding the contact to your friends list.

Erase the name or email address in the search box. Type a new name or email address into the search field and press "Find." Repeat until you are finished searching for screen names. Click "Cancel" or the "X" on the top right of the screen to close the search menu.
Import Contacts

Press the "Menu" button, "Add to Buddy List," and "Import Buddies." This will allow you to import contacts by using email addresses from the contacts in your email account or Facebook.

Select which account to import buddies from by clicking the circle next to its corresponding icon. Type in your username and password and press "Find." AOL will locate contacts that have AOL Instant Messenger.

Place a check next to each contact you want to add to AIM or click "Select All." Click "Add to Buddy List" and press "Close" when you are finished locating users.
