Whether you're in need of a plumber, and AC repairman or a dog groomer, the Internet has made finding businesses serving your area a quick and simple process. Within minutes of getting online, you should be able to locate any type of business you need within a short distance from your home.

1. Navigate to yellowpages.com. At the top of the screen, enter the name of the business you're looking for or the type of business you're looking for. To the right of that search box, enter your location, such as city or zip code. Hit "Find."

2. Go to yellowbook.com. At the top of the screen, enter, the name of the business you're looking for or the type of business you're looking for. To the right of that search box, enter your location, such as city or zip code. Hit "Search."

3. Type infospace.com in your web browser's address bar. Click on "Businesses." In the middle of the screen, enter the name of the business you're looking for or the type of business you're looking for. To the right of that search box, enter your location, such as city or zip code. Hit "Search."

4. Go to chamberofcommerce.com. Click on "Find A Business." Choose a state and a city from the drop-down menus and hit "Go." Click on a category to browse a listing of businesses fitting that category in the location specified. Note that this search method will only yield businesses that are registered with the local Chamber of Commerce.

• If you don't find what you're looking for in one online directory, try another. Not all directories are updated with frequency.
