The Windows disc defragmenter is a program installed automatically on your Windows XP system. This program organizes the files on your computer to help your computer run faster and more efficiently. If you've recently tried to run the defrag device and have received an error saying that it is not installed, don't worry. With just a few quick and easy clicks of your mouse, you can get the defrag program installed and running in no time.

      Click on the "Start" menu on your desktop, then click on "Run." Type "C:\Windows\inf" into the "Run" box and click "OK."

      Find the file called "dfrg.inf" and right-click on it. Select "Install" and wait for the defrag program to install.

      Run the disc defragmenter by going to the "Start" menu in your desktop and choosing "My Computer." In My Computer, right-click on the drive you want to defragment and select "Properties" (your main hard drive is usually drive "C:").

      Click on the "Tools" tab in the "Properties" box, then click on the "Defragment Now" button. Select "Defragment."
