      Go to the Microsoft support website and contact a support technician. They will help you find and download CSCCMD.exe, which is a program that helps restore deleted files from a computer.

      Put the CSCCMD.exe file into your windows directory file---c:\\WINDOWS\. Do this by first navigating to the download directory on your hard drive. Using the mouse, double-click the download file to open it. Right-click on the CSCCMD.exe file and select the function "CUT" from the presented menu. On the home screen, double-click the "My Computer" icon. Select the drive your on which your computer stores windows (usually it is the C drive.) Select the windows folder, by clicking it once. Right-click on the Windows folder and select "Paste." The file will now have been copied to your windows directory.

      Create a new folder on your computer, where you would like to store the recovered data---C:\RECOVER. Start by double-clicking on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop. On the left hand side of the window that was opened by double-clicking "My Computer" is a list of drives labeled C:, D: and so on. Select the drive on which to create the file, by right-clicking the drive with your mouse. Select "New." Then, select "Folder." These steps will have created a new folder on your hard drive, and you will be given a chance to name it. Name the file RECOVER.

      Open up a command prompt. To do this go to the "Start" button and click it once. Enter the word "cmd" into either the "Run" function or the "Search" function, under the Start menu and press Enter. Then, run the CSCCMD program, by typing csccmd/extract /target:C:\RECOVER/recurse, then press Enter. If you have a different name for your recovery file or a different letter for your hard drive, make sure to change the command accordingly. Your deleted offline files should now be recovered.

  • CSCCMD or client-side caching command-line can help manage and recover offline files.

  • The longer you wait to recover the files the more likely they will be unrecoverable from the hard drive.
