How to Build Your Own Website Online for Free

Free website builders offer a variety of templates from which to choose.

If you're ready to build your own website without spending any money, you can do so at any of the free website builders, such as web.com, webs.com, webstarts.com or weebly.com. While the process will vary slightly from program to program, they do share essential steps.

1. Search for a free website builder. Go into your Internet search engine and type "free website design" or "free website creation."

2. Click on the "Start Here" or "Get Started" button.

3. Fill in your contact information. Enter a valid e-mail address, a password for your account with the particular site you choose (not your e-mail address password), your name and other requested contact information.

4. Create a name and web address for your site. For example, if you are offering dog training, your site name could be "Dog Training" and your site address could be DogTraining.webs.com if you are using webs.com, or DogTraining.weebly.com if you are using weebly.com. If the name you choose is not available (meaning someone else is already using that name), add another word at the front of your name, for example BestDogTraining.webs.com, or DogTrainingInNewYork.webs.com.

5. Select the appropriate category (business, health, sports, etc.) for your site from the dropdown menu.

6. Pick a template for your site. All free website builders have a large variety from which to choose.

7. Choose how many pages you would like for your site and the topic of each page. You can always delete, add, or rearrange the order of these pages later on.

8. Create your site content. You will see how your site appears with the title, web address, and template that you have chosen. An editing tab allows you put content into your site as you would with a word processor.

• Focus on the home page of your site before working on the others. Include a brief text description or video that describes your site. After you've completed that, you can move on to create other pages.
