How to Make a Light From a Hurricane Lantern

Change a hurricane lamp into an electric lamp in five minutes.

Convert a hurricane lantern or oil lamp into an electric lamp in less than five minutes. It may take some time, however, to find an oil-lamp adapter. An oil-lamp adapter is the least-intrusive way to convert a hurricane lantern or oil lamp into an electrical lamp. Several adapter designs are available to match the time period of your lamp.

Things You'll Need

• Electric oil-lamp adapter
• Hurricane lamp
• Light bulb

Instructions

1. Remove the chimney glass from the top of the hurricane lamp.

2. Twist or pop off the oil adapter.

3. Twist or pop in the electric oil adapter.

4. Insert and secure a light bulb.

5. Put the glass chimney onto the base.
