Children often enjoy playing with toy cars. Although a play car can be purchased at any toy store, your youngster might be more excited to create her own play car model out of craft materials such as a shoe box. Even very young children can build and custom their own shoe box cars. Making shoe box play car models is also a perfect rainy day activity for a single child or a group of children.

Things You'll Need

  • Empty shoe box
  • Acrylic paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Cardboard
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue

Instructions

      Cut four 3-inch circles out of cardboard.

      Paint the circles with black acrylic paint.

      Allow the paint to dry.

    • 4

      Paint the outside of an empty shoe box and its lid with acrylic paint. Use one solid color of your choice.

      Allow the paint to dry.

      Place the lid onto the shoe box.

    • 7

      Glue the black circles vertically onto the bottom edge of the box. These will be the model play car's wheels.

      Use different colors of acrylic paint to add details to the play car, such as windows, doors, a trunk and hub caps.

      Allow the paint to dry before playing with the car.
