How to Work RV Leveling Jacks

How to Work RV Leveling Jacks thumbnail
An RV stabilized with leveling jacks provides a solid feel for the RV residents.

Leveling jacks stabilize a recreation vehicle (RV) while in use. Leveling and stabilizing are not the same thing with an RV. Leveling ensures that the floor of the RV remains true and in older RVs, ensures that your refrigerator works properly. Stabilizing makes an RV more comfortable and solid. Do not attempt to level your RV with the leveling jacks or you can damage your RV frame. Use the leveling jacks only to provide support for your RV after you level the RV with blocking or other leveling devices.

Instructions

    • 1

Read the built RV levels to ensure the RV is level in both length and width.

    • 2

Pull the handle of the first leveling jack out. Push the handle toward the leveling jack until the handle clicks into the leveling mechanism.

    • 3

Turn the handle counterclockwise to lower the leveling jack.

    • 4

Slide stabilizing blocks under the foot of the leveling jack when you reach the ground. You will need one stabilizing block to displace the weight put on the ground by the leveling jack.

    • 5

Stop lowering the leveling jack when the foot of the jack rests solidly on the ground. Do not take weight on the leveling jack.

    • 6

Move to the opposite corner of your RV and repeat the procedure to lower the leveling jack to the ground.

    • 7

Repeat the procedure at the remaining two corners of the RV to stabilize the RV.
