Cut the barrel to half height with a hacksaw. Be careful and wear eye protection.
-
2
Dig hole for the barrel. Determine where you want the barrel pit to be placed, and dig a hole that is 12-inches deep and 30-inches wide.

-
3
Pour cement into the hole. Add an amount 1-inch thick at the bottom of the pit. Smooth the cement to create a nice even surface.
-
4
Place the barrel into the hole, pushing slightly to sink into the cement, and use the dirt you removed to form a tight fit around the exterior base of the barrel.
-
5
Set the bricks around the barrel. Pour cement around the base of the barrel's exterior and begin framing bricks around the barrel. Work your way toward the top rim of the barrel by applying another layer of cement on top of the previous brick layer, and off-setting each row from the brick below. Allow all concrete to dry completely before continuing.
-
6
Place wood inside the barrel to start a fire.
