How to Check Graphics Drivers

How to Check Graphics Drivers thumbnail
Check the drivers for your graphics card.

If you are able to look at your computer and run Windows, then you already have a graphics card installed on your computer. Also known as a video card, this necessary component is what helps turn the programming language into the visuals you see on your monitor. Windows requires the correct drivers be installed to use the card. Without these small files, Windows wouldn't be able to speak with the card and display graphics. You can manually check on the version drivers being used using the Device Manager program.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start," Control Panel," "System" (or "System and Security"), then click on "Device Manager."

    • 2

Locate the "Display Adapters" option and expand it to see the video card or cards listed (some computers run multiple video cards).

    • 3

Right-click on the graphics card listed and select "Properties."

    • 4

      Go to the "Drivers" tab.

    • 5

Click "Driver Details" to examine the installed drivers. A list will pop up showing which drivers are installed, the version number and the date.
