Instructions

  1. Plug and Play

    • 1

Shut down your Xbox 360 and unplug the unit to ensure no power is going to the console. Set the Xbox on a table--not on the carpet--to avoid static electricity.

    • 2

Locate the hard drive unit on the top or left side of the Xbox 360 console. The location will depend on whether the Xbox console sits upright as a tower or horizontally.

    • 3

Push the button at the front of the hard drive unit. This releases the hard drive from the console. Carefully lift and remove the hard drive. Do not touch any of the contacts on the drive or the console with your fingers or metal objects.

    • 4

Position the new hard drive so the contacts align and gently press the drive into the console. Again, be sure not to touch any of the contacts on the console or the drive with your fingers.

    • 5

Reconnect your Xbox to the monitor or television and power up the unit. Follow the screen prompts to personalize your new hard drive.

Tips & Warnings

  • Not all Xbox 360 consoles have a hard drive. In this case you will need to discuss with Microsoft about repairing or replacing your unit. Some repair guides discuss replacing your Xbox hard drive with a SATA hard drive, but you will still need to contact Microsoft for the firmware.

  • If your Xbox is under warranty, do not attempt the repair yourself. Opening the case will void the warranty. Contact Microsoft's Xbox Live Support. When repairing your Xbox, ensure the power supply is unplugged and you are working in a safe environment. Static electricity can short out your Xbox.
