How to Send Big Email Attachments

How to Send Big Email Attachments thumbnail
Compress your large files so that you can email them.

Sending email attachments is an easy way to share documents, photographs and videos with your friends, family and colleagues. However, many of the free email services like Gmail limit the file size to 1mb. A solution to sending larger files is to compress them using a software program. This will even allow you to combine several files into one, which can then be uncompressed by the recipient.

Instructions

    • 1

Download a file compression software. Two of the most popular ones are winzip and winrar. These programs will reduce the file size of your attachments. As of 2010, they cost between $29.95 and $39.95, but both of them come with a 30-day free trial.

Install the program by double-clicking on the file and following the installation wizard. Reboot the computer once it has finished.

    • 3

Right click on the file that you wish to compress. Select "Compress and Email." Select "Zip" file and click "OK." The program will create a compressed packet that you can now upload as an attachment with your email program.

Open up your email application. Click on "Attach File," and find the packet and click "OK." Wait for the zipped file to attach itself. Write your email and send it as your normally would.
