How to Repair a GE Washer With No Agitate or Spin
The agitator of the GE washer is designed to move the clothing around in the tub to provide a more thorough and even cleaning of the clothes. Occasionally, the agitator will stop turning, requiring that the part be repaired. The GE washer agitator is designed to move by a series of directional cogs and cams that are set over the transmission shaft inside the agitator. Replacing these cogs and cams is the easiest and most cost-efficient way of repairing the washer when the agitator will not move or spin. Does this Spark an idea?

Unplug the power cord of the GE washer from the electrical outlet before repairing the agitator. Lift the lid of the washing machine by hand and locate the agitator in the center of the tub.

Slide a screwdriver into the notch of the agitator cap, prying the cap off the top of the agitator. Reach into the top of the agitator and remove the inner agitator cap by hand.

Loosen the bolt in the top of the agitator with a socket wrench, taking the bolt out of the agotator top. Lift the top of the agitator out of the washer tub by hand.

Turn the agitator top over, removing the directional cogs and cams out by hand. Remember how the parts were set in the bottom of the agitator for easy installation of the new parts.

Place the new directional cogs and cams into the bottom of the agitator top the same way the old ones came out. Turn the agitator top back over, placing it on top of the agitator base.

Secure the agitator top to the base with a bolt, using a socket wrench to tighten the bolt. Set the inner agitator cap inside the agitator top by hand so it sits over the bolt.

Snap the agitator cap onto the top of the agitator by hand. Plug the power cord of the GE washer into the electrical cord.
