How to Setup Phillips Surround Sound Hts3544
The Phillips Surround Sound System HTS 3544 is a 5.1 surround sound system. This means that there are five speakers and one subwoofer. Although normally, the speakers would connect to a receiver, on the HTS 3544, the receiver is integrated into the DVD player. Setting up the home theater speakers system involves first placing the speakers in the right places, then connecting the speakers using the easy color coded system.

1
Place the two front speakers on either side of the TV. The speakers are marked as "Front Right" or "Front Left." Angle the speakers so that they are pointing toward the center of the listening area (where you will sit).
-
2
Place the rear speakers on either side behind the listening area. The speakers should be on the same plane as where you will sit so that when you look to the right or left at a 90-degree angle, the speakers will be facing you directly.

-
3
Place the center speaker under or over the center of the TV.
-
4
Place the speaker roughly one meter away from the TV, but not in a corner of the room.
-
5
Connect the speakers to the DVD player following the color coordination and the labeling on the back left of the DVD player.
-
6
Connect a video cable from the back of the DVD player to the TV. You can either use a yellow RCA cable, S-Video cable, Component cables (with red, blue, and green connectors) or HDMI, in order of increasing quality. The television may not have all of these connections, so connect the best possible cable.
