A coffee spill does not need to mean the end of your computer however, and there are ways to minimize the risk to your machine by learning about some simple steps to clean coffee out of your laptop.

  • Small screwdriver
  • Cotton swabs

      Shut the computer down instantly after you realize coffee has spilled on the keyboard.

      Flip your laptop over so the keyboard is upside down after you have turned it off. Hold the computer upside down to drain the keyboard.

      You may need to access the inside of your keyboard to remove any residual coffee. Use a small screwdriver. Unscrew all the screws on the bottom of the keyboard. Do not force any piece of the laptop.

      Clean off any liquid from the parts you have exposed wearing gloves and using a dry, clean, disposable cloth. Q Tips and cotton swabs are recommended for the crevices. Allow the parts to dry for several hours. Reassemble the computer and turn it on.
