Instructions

    • 1

Prune in the springtime to encourage a large product of berries as the seasons progress.

    • 2

Wipe the blades of the hedge trimmer with antibacterial wipes to eliminate the chance of spreading plant illness.

    • 3

Decide on a shape for the shrubs. Prune the shrubs to a round or cube shape, or just to reveal a free-form shape, whichever is your preference.

    • 4

Remove 2 or 3 inches of foliage at a time. Prune overgrown Winterberry shrubs foot-by-foot until they are a managable size, then trim only a few inches at a time during the shaping process. It's always easy to take more away, but branches that have been cut can't be replaced.

    • 5

Continue pruning until the desired shape is achieved. Remove the cut branches and inspect for damaged or broken stems. Trim away any that are found.
