How to Hunt Deer by the Moon Times
When hunters say they are going to hunt by the moon, they don't mean they are going hunting at night, in the moonlight. Hunting laws and regulations forbid that practice. Instead, these hunters are using prediction tables that are based on the rise and set of the moon and its phase. The prediction tables give hunters an edge---an indication of when wildlife is likely to be moving and therefore easier to hunt. Hunting deer by the moon is a time-honored tradition among many hunters. Some anglers use the same method to discern the best time to fish.
Instructions

1
Download a solar lunar table for the month or week in which you plan to hunt. See the Resources section, below, for web sites that have solar lunar tables that can be downloaded and printed.
-
2
Select your desired hunting date on the table.
-
-
3
Follow the horizontal line across the page from your desired date.
-
4
Choose either the "moon overhead" or the "moon underfoot" time to hunt deer. The moon overhead is considered the best time to hunt. The moon underfoot is considered the second best time of the day.
-
5
Be at your hunting blind or deer stand about an hour before the designated time. This will give you time to settle in and be still before the deer begin to move.

Tips & Warnings
Hunting by the moon doesn't always work. When deer hunting, your best bet is to be in the woods early and plan to stay for several hours in your blind or stand.
During the deer hunting seasons for your state, creating and printing out the solar lunar tables for the entire season is an easy way to plan your hunting schedule.
