How to Burn HD Media to DVD
HD or High Definition video is a type of movie file that is rated 720p or 1080p for resolution. Video of HD quality can be stored in a number of different file types. Burning HD videos to DVD is a good way of backing up your home movies or transferring the data to another computer. You don't need to download or install any additional software to write a DVD of your HD video files with recent versions of Windows and Macintosh OS X.
Things You'll Need
- HD movie files
- Blank DVD-R
- DVD writer drive
- Windows Vista, or
- Macintosh OS X

Burning Files to DVD in Windows Vista

Insert the blank DVD-R disc into your DVD drive.

Select "Burn Files to Disc Using Windows" from the AutoPlay menu.

Enter a title for the DVD in the "Disc Title" box.

Click the arrow in the bottom left of the screen to reveal formatting options. Select "Mastered" and click "Next." A burn folder will open.

Open a new Windows Explorer menu and locate the HD movie files you want to burn and drag them into the folder the burn folder. Repeat as necessary for each movie you want to burn.

Click "Burn to Disc" at the top of the burn folder window. Check "Close The Wizard After The Files Have Been Written" and click "Next."

Wait as your HD files are burned to the DVD. The window will close automatically when the process is complete.
Burning Files to DVD on a Mac

Go to the computer's desktop. Click "File" then "New Burn Folder" from the Finder menu.

Rename the new burn folder when it appears on your desktop to the title of the DVD you are burning.

Double click the burn folder to see its contents.

Navigate a new Finder window to the HD movies you want to burn to DVD. Select them and drag them into the burn folder window. Repeat as necessary.

Click "Burn" in the top right of the burn folder window.

Insert the blank DVD when the prompt appears on the screen. Enter a name for the disc in the "Disc Name" box.

Click "Burn" to start writing the DVD. Finder will play a sound and notify you on screen when the disc is finished.
