How to Implement VoIP
VoIP stands for "Voice Over IP" which generally refers to speaking to another party over the internet in a manner similar to a phone conversation. The user typically has a VoIP phone connected to their internet connection or uses their computer speakers and microphone to interact with other parties. Depending on the VoIP service being offered a person may use a VoIP connection to call a land line or mobile or they may call another computer. VoIP calling is almost always cheaper than using a traditional phone and in many cases it is free.

Decide on a VoIP carrier. Skype is a the most famous VoIP provider, Google Voice is also popular and Vonage is used primarily in North America. The three aforementioned carriers are the most popular VoIP providers according to voip-sol.com. Visit skype.com, google.com/voice and vonage.com to determine which provider best suites the needs of the caller. All three companies list their rates and services, which are competitive. However the biggest factor in choosing a provider will likely be the needs of the user and which company offer the most competitive rate for those specific needs.

Open the software program, website or activate the VoIP phone to make a call. Each provider has different methods for calling. Skype requires the user to open their software program (or mobile app) to make calls. Google Voice requires the user to log on to their website to make calls. Vonage is the most similar to traditional phones as their service only requires a Vonage system jack and works the the house's existing number and phones.
