How to Clean Stainless Steel Rigging Wire
Every sailor worth his salt knows that the best way to preserve his boat for years to come is to clean the boat thoroughly after every time he puts it in the water. This prevents rust and other buildup from ruining the boat, making it safer on the water. It's especially important to make sure that the stainless steel rigging wires are fastidiously cleaned, because if they rust out and break on the open sea, it's rough waters ahead.
Things You'll Need
- Stainless steel or brass wire brush
- Water-soluble detergent
- Bucket
- Three soft cloths
- Hose connected to working faucet

Dip your stainless steel brush in the bucket of detergent and water. Use the wet brush to lightly scrub off any rust on the rigging wires. If the wire exhibits major rust or wear, have it replaced immediately. Use the hose to rinse off excess rust after scrubbing the wire.
