How to Make a Homemade Crochet Cotton Dish Towel
You can make your own cotton dish towels instead of buying them. Look at the color scheme in your kitchen, buy cotton crochet thread in colors that complement or match your color scheme, grab a steel crochet hook and start working on your dish towels. The design of your dish towels is limited only by your imagination--use any color or combination of colors you want. Use any stitch combination you choose. You need to be comfortable with all the crochet stitches, using crochet thread and a smaller steel crochet hook to work on this project.
Things You'll Need
- Two balls cotton crochet thread, 10 gauge
- Size 7 steel crochet hook
- Scissors
- Small tapestry needle
Instructions
-
-
1
Crochet 86 chain stitches loosely. The 86th chain is your turning chain.
-
2
Crochet one single crochet (SC) in each chain stitch for row 1. You should have 85 SC. Crochet one turning chain and turn your work. Crochet one SC in each SC for rows 2 through 15. Crochet one turning chain and turn your work at the end of each row up to row 14. Crochet one SC in each SC for row 15, but make two chains for your turning chain at the end of this row. Turn your work.

-
3
Crochet one half-double crochet (HDC) in each HDC for row 16. Crochet two chains for your turning chain and turn your work.
-
4
Continue to make one HDC in each HDC, then make two turning chains as you turn your work at the end of each row. When your dish towel measures about 20 inches long, end that row with one turning chain and then turn your work.
-
5
Crochet one SC in each HDC. Make one turning chain and turn your work. Crochet the last 14 rows as all SC. At the end of these last rows, make one turning chain and turn the work. Fasten off and cut the thread. Thread the tapestry needle onto the thread end and neatly weave the end into your towel.
