How to Send My Music to Another Computer thumbnail
Music files can be shared with other computers on your network.

When working on your home computer network, you may have music on one computer that you would like to listen to on another. It is possible to copy music from one computer on your local area network (LAN) to another through Microsoft Windows. Each computer on a network is designated by a "name." Using this name, you can transfer your music to a specific computer on your network. Once this is done, the music will be available on both computers and can be played at any time.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" button on the computer that contains the music files you wish to copy.

    • 2

Type in the "Search" box two backslashes followed by the name of the computer you wish to send your music too (i.e., \\computername) and press "Enter" on your keyboard. This will bring up the contents from the computer you wish to send the music to.

    • 3

Locate and open the folder you wish to send the music to.

    • 4

Locate the folder that contains the music you wish to copy. Right-click the folder and choose "Copy."

    • 5

Right-click the folder you wish to send the music to and choose "Paste." This will cause your computer to copy the files to the new computer.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you are unable to view files or folders on other computers in your network, you do not have the proper access permissions set up. Contact your system administrator to change your system permissions.
