How to Introduce MacBook Computers to Students
MacBooks are a type of laptop computer made by Apple. These machines are starting to be introduced into schools for use by students. They use an operating system and keyboard commands that are different from Windows-based PCs. Introducing your students to these computers is necessary so they can learn how to operate them efficiently without getting frustrated. Take some time to learn the machine well yourself and then teach your students the important basics.

1
Familiarize yourself with the MacBook by reading the user manual that is provided with each computer. To find the electronic user guide, open the Finder, click on the icon of the Mac hard drive, and click on "user guide information." The user manual is located in that folder. Read it thoroughly.
-
2
Acquaint yourself with the basic programs that the students will use in your class. This may include the word processor for writing papers, or media applications like iMovie or iPhoto for creative projects. Watch Mac tutorials for the programs included on the Apple website (see Reference section).

3
Give each of your students a computer and show them how to power it on. Most schools require students to sign into computers with a user name and password. Show them how to log in to the computers.
-
4
Give a quick lesson on using the MacBook trackpad (equivalent to the mouse on a PC). Have the students practice sliding their fingers over the trackpad. Depending on which version of the Macbook you have, there may be different functions the trackpad performs. Teach scrolling with two fingers and zooming in and out by moving two fingers away from or toward each other.

5
Teach the students about the Finder function because this is how they will access all programs and folders. Show them how to open the Finder, how it's organized, how to search for information and how to change display views.
