Install a gas power heater. The heater works by quickly circulating the pool's water through the gas- or propane-powered heater and warms it before placing it back into the pool.

Place a solar blanket on your pool. It warms the water temperature by collecting heat from the sun. A solar blanket is the cheapest way to heat your pool; however, it only warms the pool's water temperature by 10 to 15 degrees and--once the blanket is off--the water is no longer heated.

Use a heat pump heater to warm the pool's water. A heat pump runs on electricity. It takes the heat from the outside air and uses it to raise the temperature inside the pool. Because the pump is essentially recycling heat, it is generally less expensive to run than a gas power heater.
