How to Identify Mouse Droppings

Mice enter homes in the fall season to seek shellter and warmth. These tiny rodents reproduce quickly and pose health risks, if proper measures are not followed to eradicate the home of mice. The first sign you may notice is mouse droppings on the countertop when you get up in the morning, particularly if you leave crumbs of bread or other food out on the counter. Identifying the mouse droppings is the first step to controlling your problem with mice.

Instructions

1. Look on the countertop around the toaster or any area where food is prepared. Crumbs and food bits attract mice as they seek food. Mice may deposit between 50 and 75 mouse dropping a day and are usually found scattered in areas where they explore.

2. Examine any tiny brown or black pellets that may look like seeds. According to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension, mouse dropping range in size from 1/8 to ¼ inch in length and may be brown or black, depending on the diet of the of the mouse.

3. Look at the ends of the droppings. Mouse droppings are tapered at one or both ends, but on some occasions they may be round.
