Copying and pasting single images from a PDF file into a Microsoft Word document is a rather straight-forward process, and you can use Adobe Acrobat or the free Adobe Reader to select and copy images. You can also use Adobe Acrobat to export all the images in a PDF file to a specified image file format, and you can insert individual or multiple exported images into Microsoft Word.

  1. Copy and Paste Images

      Open the PDF file in either Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader.

      Click the image that you want to copy into a Microsoft Word document.

      Click "Edit" and select "Copy."

      Paste the image into the Word document with the "Paste" command.

    Export All Images

      Open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat. Click "Advanced," choose "Document Processing" and select "Export All Images As."

      The "Export All Images As" dialog box appears.

      Choose where you want to save the images and then, in the "File name" field, type the name to use for the exported image files. The name you specify is added to the beginning of the file name of each exported image.

      Click "Settings" and configure the settings for the image file type. The options vary depending on which file format you choose. You can configure file settings, color management and conversion properties. You can also exclude images of a particular size in the "Extraction" pane.

      Click "OK" to close the dialog box and click "Save" to export and save the images.

      Open a Microsoft Word document and insert the images, using the "Picture" option from the "Insert" command. The "Insert Picture" dialog box appears.

      Go to the location where you exported the images and click an image to select it. You can select multiple files by pressing the "Ctrl" key on your keyboard and selecting additional files with your mouse.

      Click "Insert" to paste the images into the Word document.
