How to Create a New Folder on Your Mac Desktop

Folders on a computer are a simple way for you and your computer to keep track of files. Applications, music and your hard drive all have folders full of files to keep everything nice and organized. Even the desktop is a folder unto itself that holds all of the other folders on your Mac computer. You can create new folders on your Mac to store documents, pictures or other files quite simply.

      Click on the desktop. This will ensure your new folder is created on the desktop and not in an open folder.

      Select “New Folder” from the File menu. A new folder named “Untitled Folder” will appear on your desktop.

      Click on the file name once, wait a couple of seconds and click on the file name again so the text is highlighted. Press “Delete” on your keyboard and enter a new name for the folder.

      Click on the folder once and drag it and drop it in any other folder on your Mac to move it.
