Open iTunes on your iMac. Go to the "Store" menu and either sign in to your Apple store account or create an account if you do not have one. You must enter your credit card and billing address to create an account. No charges are billed unless you download music.

Browse the iTunes store to select your music. Find an album or song you want to download and click on it. This will give you the option to listen to a sample of the music before you make a purchase.

Click the "Buy" button to the right of your selection. This will take you to a checkout page where you pay for the music you wish to purchase. Once payment is complete, click to download your purchase to your computer using the iTunes application as your download manager.
Downloading Music with P2P Software

Select a free P2P program. This is file sharing software capable of downloading music files from several different servers. P2P stands for peer-to-peer. Cabos, Frostwire and Limewire are all free Mac P2P programs. Frostwire is compatible with iTunes and integrates well with the program.

Open your P2P software. Read the terms of service, which should state that you will observe all copyright laws when using this software. Click on "Audio" in files types, and type the name of the song or band that you want to find music for.

Locate the song file you want to download to your computer in the results window. To download the file to your iTunes folder, click twice on the song file.
