The Beretta 92FS is a popular firearm that gained worldwide recognition after winning several military contracts in the 1980s. The original Beretta model 92 pistol first appeared in 1975, and 92FS model evolved from modifications requested by the U.S. Army in 1989. Instructions

  1. Disassembly and Cleaning

    • 1

Press the magazine release button and remove the magazine to unload the gun. Pull back and then release the slide to make sure there is no bullet in the chamber. Hold the pistol firmly with one hand, and with the other hand press the disassembling latch release button. Rotate the latch with your thumb until it stops. Pull the slide assembly forward. Push the recoil spring in slightly, then slowly remove the spring and spring guide. Press down on the locking block plunger and remove the barrel locking assembly from the barrel. Set all of the parts on a clean cloth.

Clean the barrel by applying a small amount of bore cleaner to a cleaning patch. Put the cleaning patch on the bore brush. Attach the bore brush to the cleaning rod. Place the tip of the brush into the muzzle of the barrel. Work the brush back and forth through the length of the barrel. Replace the patch with a clean patch and run it through the barrel. Repeat this step until the patch emerges clean from the barrel. Wipe the outside of the barrel with an oiled cloth.

Apply a thin coat of gun oil to a cleaning brush or a toothbrush. Scrub the inside of the gun's chamber, taking care to remove all of the dirt and burnt gunpowder. Clean the inside grooves in which the slide rests. Brush and wipe down the receiver. Wash off the brush before continuing to clean the rest of the gun parts (you don't want to just smear grime around instead of removing it). Work the brush through the recoil spring and over the spring guide. Wipe all the parts off with a clean cloth when finished; wipe them again with the oil-impregnated cloth. Reassemble the gun in reverse order from the disassembly instructions.
