Ejecting a CD from a Mac laptop requires that the power is on.

All Macintosh laptops feature slot-loading disc drives. A Mac laptop must be turned on in order to eject a CD that is inside of it. There are a number of ways to eject a CD from a Mac laptop, none of which will damage the drive or the laptop.

Instructions

      Press the power button on the Mac laptop for two seconds. Hold down the left mouse button on the Mac laptop. Release the left mouse button when the CD is ejected from the disc drive slot. Remove the CD from the slot.

      Drag the icon of the CD to the Trash. Wait until the icon of the CD disappears. Remove the CD from the slot once it has been ejected.

      Right-click on the icon of the CD. Select "Eject" from the pop-up menu. Wait until the icon of the CD disappears then remove the CD from the slot once it has been ejected.

      Launch the Terminal program by double-clicking its icon inside the "Utilities" folder, which is inside the "Applications" folder. Enter "drutil tray eject" and press the "Return" key. The CD will be ejected from the disc drive slot. Remove the CD from the slot. Quit the Terminal program.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always blow off loose dust from a CD before inserting it into the Mac laptop's disc drive.

  • Trying to physically pull a CD out of the Mac laptop's disc drive can damage both the CD and the drive.
